Could niche sites shake Youtube’s future success?
Future for Youtube?

The future looks bright for Youtube. A recent alexa.com search reveals it’s the number 4 traffic generating site in the world, just behind it’s mother, Google. Clearly Google made a wise investment when it coughed up over a billion dollars to purchase this entertainment giant a short while ago. But dothe current trends and success of Youtube secure it as king for online entertainment in the future, or could another trend slowly pose take it’s place.
Upon first reading this, you’re probably chuckling to yourself a bit. Clearly the people at Youtube and Google are smart enough to foresee competition and squash it well before it gains strength enough to compete. And by all accounts Youtube does have the market,. and shows no sign of slowing down.
But before you stop reading this, at least consider this hypothetical. Suppose you wanted a new pair of shoes. And not just any shoes, but you really wanted to see the top new running shoes so you could prepare for a race. Which would you rather do, enter a store that sell shoes, clothes, groceries, pets, movies, computers, jewelry, tools, auto equipment, home decor, and so on. Or would you rather go to a store specifically tailored for sports shoes? The service would be better in a place specifically geared to service a specific niche market.
Go to Youtube today, and you will find videos ranging from every topic and group you can imagine. But what if you’re looking for specific quality videos to watch, like videos for children. What if you want to see different children’s cartoon video submissions from across the world? The Youtube search engine is about as useful as an information desk at a Biggs store (Biggs, btw, went out of business in my state). It will not just pull from a pool of children’s cartoons, but you’ll get hits on categories you’re not even interested in.
Need proof? Go to Youtube and type in “children’s cartoons” and see what comes up! Even in quotes, you’ll get a slim 15 results in which only 2 or 3 are even cartoons at all!
Niche Markets in Entertainment
Now imagine a site, like Youtube in functionality, but specifically tailored for children’s cartoons? A site where categories can be broken down into cartoon related sections (like 80s cartoons, animal cartoons, funny cartoons, etc.) With everything being cartoons, you will have a greater chance of finding what you want.
And what if there was a search engine that only searched children’s movies or children’s cartoons? There are adult cartoons as ell, but that’s a different niche entirely, so those results would not come up. But with such a search. site, or host of sites, users would have quick convenient access to the videos they want to see without having to wade through a endless number of ones they don’t.
This idea doesn’t just pertain to the children’s market, but is also applicable for any niche market. Whether it’s Howto guides, People Blog videos, Top rated videos, News videos, Sports videos, High School videos, Pet Videos, or whatever. Niche based entertainment makes finding the videos you want to watch fast an easy.
